UK start-up to build flying taxi hubs in 65 cities – Cities Today

  1. These are electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) flying taxis. Think people sized drones. Apparently, it’s become way cheaper and quieter.

I couldn’t mention any of that in the title (which is what most people read), as the mods have decided titles are sacred and any alteration to them would incur the wrath of The Elder Gods.

  2. Can’t believe how much snake oil gets past the most basic scrutiny.

Who the hell are these flying taxis actually for? It’s not you or me

I for one am not happy with a single penny of our taxes to go developing infrastructure for these pipe dreams when we can’t even get high speed rail sorted.

Edit: and does anyone even want to consider what a failure looks like for a multi tonne vehicle falling out of the sky in low flight in a bloody city?

  3. Paris was supposed to have them up and running next year, I’m assuming that’s been nixed by the panic though.

  4. Looks like another hyperloop/solar roadways/”elon tunnel” (see:underground/metro rebranded and setup inefficiently) in the making. Money hole that wont turn out to work well at all or if it does, will be extremely, stupidly expensive/ cause serious issues in the current systems in place.

The fact the government is giving these people money while children go hungry and people go without heating is shameful to be honest.

  5. ‘The eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) flying taxi market has expanded rapidly over the past five years, with further growth expected’

Where? where are there these things in operation right now to have expanded rapidly?

  6. A place for docking flying things you say.

Like a “port”, for craft of the “air”.

    What a novel idea.
