From missed bone fracture to incorrect tumor size: this is what we already know about incorrect diagnoses by radiologists at ZNA Cadix hospital in Antwerp

>The ZNA Cadix hospital in Antwerp is temporarily replacing all its seven radiologists, because there are serious questions about the quality of their work. From a sample of 1,300 examinations, 24 patients received an “incomplete or inaccurate diagnosis.” This is what we already know about the errors.
>1,300 studies spread over the months of January and March were examined and reviewed by external and independent experts. Errors were found in 24 patients. This includes a bone fracture that was missed, a dilation of a blood vessel that was not noticed, or the size of a tumor that was measured incorrectly.
>No small mistakes and that is why the hospital took a drastic decision. All radiologists on the ZNA Cadix team have currently been replaced. This is a temporary measure, at least until the investigation is completed. This concerns the entire team of seven radiologists.
The irony in placing blame on these 7 radiologists.
If an entire department needs to go there is a mistake in the system, not with the people…
Edit: need to go = “currently been replaced”, temporarily
I’m honestly certain it’s been going on for longer and runs wider than just this department. I had radiologists see ‘something’ in my wrist, after getting an MRI due to extensive pain under stress. Doctor decided to operate, even though he wasn’t sure what it would be, “we’ll see when it’s open”, he rooted around a bit, and when I woke up all he said was “couldn’t find anything! Just let me know when your scar heals if you still feel any pain!”. Incompetence at every level in Stuivenberg, they just moved it to the other side of the river.
So they found 7 scapegoats? Blame it all on them? There is definitely more to that story than this…
