  1. I’m all for raising the minimum wage but why the stat on %women? How is that contrary to the ‘what people think’ list and why should it matter? I assume there are women in both categories that make up around half of the population?

  2. People over age 65 recently outnumbered young workers 16-19. I wonder how much they contribute to the average age of

Edit: answered my own question. ~3% of workers 16-24 earn min wage compared to less than 1% for everyone 35+.

  3. Raising minimum wage always kills more jobs than it creates.

  4. The minimum wage was literally designed to keep
Low skilled Black workers out of work. Google it if you don’t believe me. The origins of this policy are deeply rooted in racism.

Now the argument I’m trying to make is that the minimum wage disproportionately hurts low skilled workers which is what those who lobbied for the minimum wage recognised.

I would much prefer abolishing the minimum wage and implementing a UBI instead. That way the market distortions of the minimum wage are removed, yet those who really struggle have the support they need.

Many Scandinavian countries have no minimum wage and instead rely on unions to bargain with industry. I have no problems with this.

  5. Almost no one makes federal minimum wage anyway so it’s meaningless. If you show even a hint of capability you’ll be looking at $10-$13 immediately, more where cost of living is higher.

  6. The most who benefit by minimum wage hikes are corporations and the most harmed are mom and pop shops. Corporations can absorb the cost and/or automate where small businesses just have to go under

  7. Doesn’t a low minimum wage benefit large corporations like Walmart? If a lot of your employees are getting benefits, you have tricked the middle class into paying part of your labor costs.
