  1. This should be easy… for every worker they hire abroad they MUST train and promise to hire a native or the visa is cancelled.

  2. As far as construction is concerned this is closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.

There was an oversupply of skilled workers after the financial crisis up until around 2016. This caused wages to stagnate which meant that no one wanted to do an apprenticeship and caused skilled workers to leave the industry.

Then due to wages rising abroad (mainly in Poland) and wages stagnating in the U.K. meant that the U.K. was no longer such an attractive destination for skilled foreign workers.

Being as the U.K. hadn’t bothered training the next generation of tradesmen that caused a massive skills shortage, which resulted in our wages rising quite rapidly between 2016 till now.

People are now coming into the industry purely because the wages have caught up to where they should have been. The problem is already solving itself.

  3. Best thing to do, is to increase the minimum wage for firms who hire 1 foreign worker.

Lets see what happens, when a firm faces having to pay double minimum wage to ALL employees, when they hire 1 foreign worker.

Labour and the Tories, are both too much part of the establishment to actually want to dramatically increase wages for UK workers, it will NEVER happen.
