  1. Why wouldn’t they be? They control almost all of the media that their core voters consume.

  2. For whatever reasons many humans want to believe the lies: the bigger the more enthusiastically.

For the same reason I believe that the orange one across the pond will win.

    Menkind is doomed.

  3. 50%. Holy shit. I don’t think any party in Poland had such a support ever.

  4. Damn you guys in Hungary have a generation of work ahead of you. I’m starting to wonder if there’s another way of helping so that this doesn’t become the next dictatorship. Most people I know from Hungary are all fiercely against Orban, how can you guys get your movement up?

  5. Well, they’re phrasing the election as “If you choose us, you choose peace; if you choose anything else, we go to war”.

And they control most of the media so this message goes through to many people who don’t see the other side on how much of a bullshit this is.

I should note though that there are many pollsters and 50% is the highest among them, the average is closer to 45%. Which is still crazy ofc.

  6. I know they control the media, but surely you dont get 50% just by owing media… I think there must be large portion of citizens who simply want them in power.

  7. Because they’ve slandered all of their opponents into looking worse than they are, created a culture of apathy and skepticism towards change, and have total control over the media.

  8. Croatia has a similar dillema. We had parliamentary elections 2 months ago where we hoped the curremt ruling HDZ would be toppled. Even with 60% turnout they formed a coalition with a right wing party to stay in power. After all the scandals, crackdowns and general dissatisfaction with the direction the country is heading towards, shit ain’t changing.

  9. It’s clear that people of Hungary have spoken that they want to build closer relationship with Russia and China.

The EU should grant them the liberty to do so by first expelling them from the Union, so that they have the freedom to sign a free trade agreement with Russia and China.

  10. Tldr: Fidesz, yet again, successfully creating panic. This time on the docket: war.

  11. What happened to Jobbik? Tisza doesn’t seem like the kind of party they would vote for

  12. Damn, Djukanovic was a dictator here for 30 years and he never had more than 40%, ever.

  13. Quite a pathetic result, if you consider that there is no free press and no democracy in Hungary.

What kind of pitiful brainwashing is this, with a measly 50% success rate?

  14. Immune just the same as any cult/religion. This is a result of propaganda and social media polarization turning politics into a cult.

MAGA in US shows the same resilence, same for PiS in Poland.

  15. I’m under the impression that in the past few years all populists have become immune to scandals.

Meloni’s party had huge scandals in election times, two members were suspended from the party, one for having posted appreciation words for Hitler in the past, another one was caught posting selfies with schwastikas and SS bracelets on facebook… Meloni herself was caught having expressed her admiration for Mussolini in her youth. So? Still the most voted party :-/

    Do you remember 20 years ago when we used to complain about how much politics suck? I wish they sucked like they did back then ;_;

  16. It seems as long as they just promise to hurt the gay, the brown people and the EU, then the Hungarians will continue voting them in.

  17. At this point I am 90% convinced Gyurcsány is still at the head of the DK etc. alliance payed by Orbán himself so he always got a scapegoat 😀

  18. We need to invade Hungary and force those Russia-supporting sub-humans out of power.

  19. Hungary gave the mathematician Janos Neumann to the world. At the same time, in Hungary, math goes as the follows: 2.5 million voters out of 9.5 citizens is 50% + 2/3 in the Parliament.

  20. I guess it’s similar case with Greece’s ND government: everyone hates both the government and the prime minister (Mitsotakis) but it’s still the first party

  21. So, how many years do we still have to endure the autocrat before his old voters die off?
