  1. >“In the UK we know that there’s roughly 25 per cent of UK communication pipes that are lead,” said Sturm. “And 34 per cent of homes have some lead pipe pipes in their network.”

Jesus f%cking Christ, i thought here in Germany our right wing government neglected public infrastructure

the length of lead pipes network in Germany is zero AFAIK( very old houses might still have lead pipes inside them ,but the pipe network owned by water utilities is free of lead pipes )

  2. The single best move for the UK in all aspects would be to replace this shite piping. Imagine your entire population get way smarter just within a few years

  3. That’s what you get with privatization. People drinking lead doesn’t affect their profits, so why spend money on it?

  4. What is the unit here? What is one pipe? From water source to tap? In between one bend? 1 dragon’s elbow?

  5. Be humble, in Italy there are still lead pipes and with a record of areas with water dispersion of up to 60% and more. Number One 🇮🇹✌🏼

  6. Remember: There are only 2 reasons a private company would invest into some quality without the product literally stopping to function:

    – customers are so displeased they go to the competitor

    – laws force the company to do it

Now think about what of these apply to the current scenario.

  7. Privatising state monopolies that can’t be adequately replaced by multiple market contender doesn’t even make sense from a liberal economic standpoint. Isn’t it taught in the first class of economic studies that private monopolies that can’t be broken up are the absolute worst thing to a market?

Conservatives and to a smaller degree “Social” Democrats in Germany did or tried to do the same. However, not to the same extent as in Britain.

Either these politicians and their advisors are absolute dumbfucks or all these were ways to scam the public and enrich themselves and their friends.

  8. Privatization is only positive and private companies can manage the infrastructure better. Just repeat after me.

Where does all the payments of customers go to? Do they just think they can skip overhaul? Is there not any laws forcing these companies to change the pipes after a period of time? Just whom do the law makers serve if not the people?

  9. Slow? Weird choice of word to replace “stop”

  10. These comments embarrass me. Lots of smug commenters from other countries talking as if the UK doesn’t outperform most of them by a mile (including Germany) when it comes to environmental matters, safe drinking water, and limits to lead and heavy metal exposure.
