Clarence Thomas Finally Reports Gifts He Says Were ‘Inadvertently Omitted’ From Disclosures |
“The fact that he omitted the plane to Indonesia and the yacht… leads me to believe he and I have very different interpretations of his disclosure responsibilities, and that’s a problem,”

  1. I really wonder what Roberts thinks of Thomas. Does he think this is okay? Did he sit Thomas down and say, “Dude, it’s NOT COOL to be dragging the Supreme Court through the mud”?

Or is it like “It would be rude to say anything…” or even “I hope they don’t find out about my trip to Bhutan…”

  2. They weren’t disclosed *because* he knew it was wrong.

  3. How do you forget to disclose a yacht trip you go on not only every year, but you get commemorative shirts for it?

  4. Why is it a problem? Would he rule on cases differently? Would he recuse himself from cases where he should?

They are all rotten. The problem is that these people are allowed to stay in a position of power for life. For life.

  5. If he was a Democrat nominated Justice, the Republicans would be screaming in every way possible. The double standard and hypocrisy is unbearable to me.

  6. If he accidentally forgets $4m of gifts then what else does the guy own and who gave it to him???

If he’s this forgetful should he be working on the Supreme Court?

  7. If this clown doesn’t have the mental capacity to correctly disclose gifts, then he sure doesn’t have the mental capacity to sit on the highest court in the country…

  8. “Inadvertently failed to realize”??!!

Either we have a justice who’s a bold-faced liar on the court, or a justice who is too dim to be ruling on the finer points of the U.S. Constitution! (He should) Resign, (he should) Recuse, (the senate should) Impeach!

  9. “Inadvertently omitted” is just judge speak for “lied.”

The only question that matters now is if he (or Alito) receive ANY punishment for their actions.

I’m guessing no as DC is a cesspool of a lot of talk with little action (particularly with the SC).

  10. We need to have a campaign where we publicly bribe him to leave office.

  11. Too bad there are no real consequences for “ethics violations” and the R’s have decided that if there are no consequences that it’s allowed. Until we build in consequences this will aggressively continue.

  12. Ah .. it only comes to light after being called out about it and an oops excuse

  13. So he either has so many gifts / freebies that he genuinely forgot them. That’s an issue.

Or, he didn’t want to disclose them. That’s an issue.

  14. Why the FUCK can’t Merrick Garland investigate this as a crime?

  15. We may be also seeing another huge reason why several of them will not resign. They leave the court the protection is gone and Thomas for example would quickly be tossed in jail and have everything taken. As long as he is on the SCOTUS making it a joke he knows the GQP will not remove their useful puppet.

  16. He said this before when the Harlan Crowe story broke.

  17. It is often hilarious when we talk about this as if the current power structure can be healed from within.

All of these clowns are anointed as corrupt sycophants from the beginning. Talk of “proper behavior” etc. is just a game we play to make ourselves feel like we have agency.

  18. This guy is garbage. Has been garbage. He needs to be held accountable for his inadvertent omissions wink, wink.

  19. Corrupt fucking traitor. I’ve read a significant number of his rulings, and they are all filled with garbage opinions that no morally upright person should hold.

  20. “I plead oopsie-woopsie!~ UwU” –A thoroughly corrupt bastard

  21. Yet here we are and no one will do anything about it because they are above the law.

  22. This guys gift reports are the same as trump and the classified documents. I bet he’s got some more “inadvertently omitted gifts” laying around in several inconvenient locations.

  23. Did Clarence only report things that have been discovered by reporters? Or did he disclose something new? This is the critical question. Because I’m betting it’s just things others found already and that there is plenty more to find.

  24. But is it a problem? Like for Thomas, is it really a problem? Sounds like someone else’s problem.

  25. The Supreme Court in general is just fucking dumb. I know we need some sort of high court to have the final say but literally it all comes down to who happens to be in office when judges die or agree to step down. You could theoretically have the whole court installed by one president (obviously not likely) but that’s insanity.

You could have like 30 years of the country with one party rule on the court.

These people are all legal scholars. They can take whatever their personal view on abortion, guns, business, etc is and just use their knowledge of the law to form their argument.

  26. No no no, don’t attack him *yet* for disclosing his bribes. We don’t want to discourage him from additional disclosure. Let him fess up in it’s entirety, *then* blast his ass once he’s disclosed everything

  27. I guess you can do whatever you want when you’re above the law.

  28. He doesn’t care if he gets caught. He’ll never step down, he knows he doesn’t have to

  29. He needs to be investigated by the fbi. Him and any other justices who take bribes.
