Green Party candidate ‘devastated’ after learning day before polling thousands of leaflets undelivered by An Post

  1. Has anyone ever decided on who to vote for based on a leaflet they received?

  2. Don’t worry Green Party activists, I threw all mine straight in the recycle bin without reading them.

  3. The reality is that leaflets work, just as posters do. A lot of people only make up their mind when they are at the ballot, and a lot of their choice has to do with who they recognise or looks familiar, even if it’s at a subconscious level.

  4. the whole thing with leaflets and posters on the side of the road just seems plain archaic in 2024. we desperatly need people who will think outside the box, not just copy what other candidates are doing or what they have done in the past

  5. Unfortunate situation for her, seems she genuinely just got unlucky and an post messed up.

  6. Shitty service provided to this candidate to be fair.

I’d like to be able to opt out of these leaflets being printed in my name altogether though.

  7. It’s Greens. Seems like a good place for posters is recycling bin 😉

  8. Don’t we all just burn them at the fireplace in the winter.

  9. I presume this was a carbon neutral environmentally sustainable leaflet campaign.

  10. They go straight in the bin. An post saved people from doing it.

  11. That’s An Post for you 😂, wouldn’t have made a difference anyway.

  12. Bad situation for her, on a separate note got John Waters leaflet through the post on Wednesday, not that I was planning on voting for him anyway but what a batshit mental read that was asking me to send him into the belly of the beast

  13. Not very green doing leaflets. Although I suppose recycling and shit.

An post is a fucking useless service, a job many a month ago means I fucking hate them, trauma may never pass.

  14. Why would a ‘green’s candidate post leaflets in the first place?

  15. Doesn’t seem to have harmed her, she topped the poll in Kimmage-Rathmines. Should get her money back though.

  16. Kinds seems if you are green you wouldn’t use leaflets or at least use biodegradable ones.

  17. A lot of people are giving her stink for using leaflets but it’s the best way to get a message to a lot of people. Emails won’t work, online ads won’t work, I’ve never got a political text message but that wouldn’t work. They’re too easy to ignore or forget about. Leaflets can be left to the side to read later but at least there’s a chance people will read them on the way to the bin.

  18. What’s the CO footprint for delivering all those leaflets?

  19. If all the political ads are controlled on social media channels and Google ads, why isn’t the same applied on leaflets and posters we see and get around this time? I’ve read some things on candidate leaflets, that wouldn’t be accepted as ads on Facebook or Google.

  20. > She said when her husband went down to the sorting office this week to retrieve those that weren’t delivered, close to 1,500 less than An Post had claimed were posted successfully, had not been.

This sentence is doing my head in. I *think* it’s trying to say that An Post delivered 1500 fewer than it claimed it did. It’s *actually* saying that An Post delivered 1500 more than they failed to deliver.

  21. Good, election candidates shouldnt be allowed to force litter into my home.

  22. Green Party prints off loads of paper pages and sends them through the postal service, not conserving paper and relying on a carbon emitting service, not so green…

I don’t support them, I’m not a green guy, I’m just pointing out simple hypocrisy.

  23. She is topping the tally so far . She will be sickened if she narrowly misses out

  24. Oh yeah, because the bullshit numerous pile of leaflets I get every fucking election sway my vote. No wait, I vote based upon people who don’t post pictures of their stupid mush through my door when I don’t want it. So her money gets her nowhere. Sounds like she’s making excuses already for not getting elected
