Answering the call to fight Russians on Ukraine’s front | Focus on Europe

an uphill battle not just to keep fit but to prepare for a very real one Philip aaren kov has decided to join the Ukrainian Army it sounds like uh too much too serious yeah but I’ve lost the meaning of my Civil Life civilian people die like every day and it’s not a joke once a mon I wake up du due to explosions of Russian missiles bomb in K and in this case learning programming or becoming a developer or creating a family it feels like you’re I’m lying to myself Philip is an English teacher in keev the 30-year-old has been working for months on his physical and mental Fitness right now although people think that right now is the worst moment to join army and I understand that because Ukraine lack lacks shells artillery man everything we lack everything I feel that I’m ready and I don’t care what the situation on the front line is I’m strong enough to protect my own country Philip has made another important choice to join the prominent military unit the The DaVinci wolves its founder dimitro kotoo who was killed near bakut last year is a national hero in Ukraine as part of a bid to boost recruitment military units like The DaVinci wolves are now hiring people on their own they recently opened this recruitment center in ke Philip is enlisting at a time when Ukraine’s outgunned Army faces A Renewed Russian offensive in the Northeast I’ve been thinking about fear a lot uh I have a fear of my body but my mind is strong when I go outside I see that majority of people are afraid uh because war is freaking scary and um you either break or become stronger and nobody knows when it finishes for Philip his decision marks a new start a clean break from his life in keev I don’t need these things and I’m not sure that I’m going to come back from war he’s giving up his rental apartment and leaving for a military training camp in a few days days but saying goodbye isn’t easy Philip has cut off ties with his father in Odessa who he says remains staunchly pro- Russian he says his family isn’t even aware he’s joining the Army who will he miss the most [Applause] easy um my friends I feel that it’s worth protecting them I have to be strong uh yeah but the most difficult part yeah definitely my friends they are really amazing people in the afternoon Philipe meets two of them s and ehor have known Philip since the childhood his decision to join the Army has stirred a lot of emotions Ukraine’s Army is struggling to find fresh recruits a new mobilization law has tightened registration procedures for men aged 25 to 60 and imposed penalties for draft Dodgers Philip however made his decision well before that I support Philipe I feel proud of him for making such a difficult decision and I’m also a little ashamed that I haven’t made such a decision yet because I could have made one of course I’m worried about him Philip has mentioned more than once that maybe this is our last meeting woo a few days later Philipe has begun his military training he’s already learned to carry a weapon he has to be up in the camp by 6 every morning today the group of recruits is learning to lay booby traps and mines Philip remains cleare eyed about what’s at stake all this horror all this Terror that Russians do to Ukraine Ukrainian people don’t deserve that I see that if I don’t protect my country my country will cease to exist despite the difficult path ahead for now Philipe says his decision to join the Ukrainian Army has never felt more right

Ukraine is short on soldiers to combat Putin’s army. President Zelenskyy has passed a new mobilization law. Teacher Philipe has already signed up voluntarily. A civilian life no longer makes sense for him, he says.

  1. It would be better to have this philipe and other europeans to fight this war… In my country they hire poor soldiers, ex-guerilla fighters via telegram channels and just plain convicted war criminals with a promise of 3k a month (that they don't pay).

Please, fight your war with your own men/women without involving third parties that have nothing to do with this war.

  2. Dw will never talk about the Israel Palestine war. I guess, everyone is faulty and Israel takes advantage of that.

  3. I remember this guy from like a month or two ago, the rock-climber who lost the meaning of his civil life. People have longer memories than DW thinks.

  4. Last year's Ukrainian counteroffensive failed, and if NATO does not participate this year, there will be no victory, only a ceasefire. Ukraine has been reduced in terms of money and troops. Without F22 fighters, even if American or French fighters are deployed, they are likely to be shot down by the S-400. It is either NATO participation or a ceasefire.

  5. (US 25 vs China $35 trillion 2024 GDP PPP) The G2 fight will be like the Russia-Ukraine fight, and the US will collapse like the Soviet Union in the 2030s. At the current level, machine warfare is possible around the mid-2040s. The US has a lot of debt, and if banks, corporations, and dollars are shaken, the US will collapse even if it is a reserve currency country.

  6. 😂😂😂 it's laughable when news outlets think people have short memory. The reality is no one volunteer to die unless u have mental illness

  7. The way for the US to survive in the G2 competition is to go multilateral, and the way for Ukraine to survive is for NATO to participate. The multilateral approach includes decoupling. American factories in China are bait for the collapse of the US. Ukraine has fewer troops than last year, so the risk is greater. The only option is for NATO to participate.

  8. If they’re using same guy to show their recruitment success – so it’s an act of desperation . Not much luck…

  9. The dude wants to kill his father living in Odessa……..Kiev has only 2 hours of electricity every day…..DW – what kind of journalists you employed?

  10. This guy is the type of guy we should all look up to. You are a King, go fight for your lands, for your people and your freedom!

  11. Most Ukrainian soldiers these days were taken off the streets by guys on vans and sent to the front. Ukrainian men don't want to die. Many are bribing their way out of Ukraine.
