French soldiers hold D-Day re-enactment as 80th anniversary nears

French soldiers participated in a re-enactment of the D-day landings on Omaha Beach, as the world prepares to mark the 80th anniversary of the operation, when more than 150,000 allied troops landed in France to drive out Nazi Germany’s forces in history’s largest amphibious assault

Across Normandy, where beaches and fields still bear the scars of the fighting that erupted on June 6, 1944 and the weeks that followed, preparations were underway for the ceremonies. World leaders from U.S. President Joe Biden to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will attend.

Nearly 100 soldiers from France’s army and navy disembarked on the shores from barges that left from the Mistral helicopter carrier.

  3. A Real enactment would have required special pyrotechnics and gallons of red paint and special mannequins in uniform designed to be rapidly disassembled using yet more pyrotechnics… – today's society would not be capable of handling such a display and each would need months of counselling….
