  1. Clickbait. It’s about not labelling that they contain peanuts, so if you’re not allergic to peanuts then there’s no issue.

  2. If you eat a “Nutty Nougat Caramel bar” and don’t foresee the risk of nuts then I think there may be bigger problems

  3. Well they have to do that legally or they’re on the hook if anyone falls sick.

But Tesco recalling nutty chocolate bars because they contain nuts is actually quite funny in a sad way.

It’s like the warning to not iron clothes while wearing them. That’s because some peabrain has done that and blamed the manufacturer.

  4. Really? The NUTTY Nougate Caramel Bar has nuts in? Who would’ve guessed…

  5. Peanuts are legumes not tree nuts.

So while hilarious at face value, if you are allergic to peanuts and trust the labelling, this is a problem for you.

  6. I get that newspapers are for-profit businesses that need the clicks, but I still find it frustrating that urgent public health announcements like these are hidden behind these vague clickbait headlines. People need to see this information, it should be immediately apparent what the product is and what the issue is. Imagine it was the Mail’s job to announce air raids, ‘Government announces exact time residents of certain North East city should take precautions over danger to life fears.’

  7. Those Dreamy Caramel bars are pretty good, though. Much better value than the brand name they are ripping off.

  8. Everyone’s focusing on one the nutty bar, which I get is hard to get your head around if you’re not used to playing life in nut allergy mode.

Some things that definitely shouldn’t contain nuts, do, and some things that should contain nuts, don’t. The cheap milk chocolate at Lidl suddenly contains peanut and hazelnut paste. Pesto pizza at Aldi, on the other hand, doesn’t in fact contain pine-nuts, a major ingredient of pesto. Knock-off Lidl Oreo’s, contain hazelnut paste. Aldi’s don’t, the real ones don’t.

If a chocolate bar called “nutty bar” said it didn’t contain nuts, I can see how one would be inclined to believe it. Nutty is a flavour, after all, I had the same dilemma around Christmas when tonnes of stuff is described as “nutty”. Not to mention, it’s not just allergy sufferers but their friends, family etc. Peanut free peanut butter exists, I refused to eat it because it was like smelling poison, but it exists.

Secondly, the fact that a mars bar knockoff with no suggestion at all of nuts/peanuts, contains peanuts, is insane. I buy these from Lidl all the time, if it happened there, I could quite literally die in front of my children while my wife is at work.

  9. Here I am thinking this is what caused the E.Coli outbreak, nah, just a label
