Crazy how it all boils down to taxation and immigration.
Far-right populism just fits perfectly with social media.
Short clips without context triggering emotions. And the far-right really has perfected doing just that.
I get that people aren’t happy with established parties. I somehow even understand that people are afraid of immigration (though like with most fears, it’s not necessarily founded in reality).
But objectively, voting for the far-right is like shooting yourself in your knee. I’ve seen the FPÖ be a part of the Austrian government ~~twice~~ thrice in the last 20 odd years. They didn’t deliver on their promises, but they sure knew how to be more corrupt than the “established” parties.
And what I saw from other countries doesn’t convince me it’s different elsewhere

I’m young and a laborer, and I fucking hate the stupidity of the older parts of this class. They are so blind to the fact that these populist, and at times extreme, right wing parties will fuck us over again and again to protect/preserve a class that does not give a fuck about us, or even sees us as a burden. All out of egotism and closeted racism.

I swear a big part of this is just that the AfD is more tech-savy than the others on the platforms that matter most to the youngest voter demographic. Basically, they mastered TikTok and are making the most of it.

Though tbf: AfD got 16% of the total vote, so the youth vote doesn’t show a lot more than the average in Germany. Actually double the numbers for the Left though.

It’s ironic to me the workers, who tend to be most affected by inflation, would vote right, considering right = pro corporate, meaning those parties will continue to shovel money to corporations while refusing to tax them, thus not providing anywhere near a better outcome for workers.
Could someone who speaks barbarian please translate into a civilised language?

People are INSANE if they think that their situation will improve with AfD in power. They’re like the CDU and FDP but worse. They’re 100% a rich people party, they’re not even hiding it at all, it’s right in their program.
But they’re obviously not talking about it. But even if they would, they’d still get a shitload of votes because people don’t care. As long as the AfD uses migrants as scapegoats for every problem, they’ll have a devoted voter base.
I’d like to think there’s a decent portion of sixteen year olds that vote AfD for the laughs because I knew plenty of people at that age who would’ve done it without a moment’s hesitation.
Did Volt get censored ouf of these results or what happened?
