100%. More automation of middle class jobs will lead to greater wealth. That wealth can than be redistributed towards the bottem end of the income distribution by government benefits and taxes on the new wealth being generated.
The sad fact is that if you are upper-class, you don’t even need to bother pulling the ladder up. Who cares about an upstart accountant buying himself a Mercedes, he doesn’t have the same ability to evade inheritance tax, doesn’t have your contacts, doesn’t get the low-down on insider information for new ventures, and will never build generational wealth. His pretty daughters will still work for your class.
If you’re middle class, you also subtly pull the ladder up. You convince yourself you got what you have by hard work and differentiated yourself, god dammit and you’re going to keep your miserable little house and aging trinkets.
And I guess if you’re working class, you and your kin should have nothing, forever, and pull down everyone else. That’ll help you.
