From Ilta Sanomat – "The vote queen of the election is Li Andersson , the chairman of the left-wing coalition , who received by far the largest number of votes in the election, 247,604 votes. The number is the highest ever for the European elections in Finland. Andersson's number of votes was more than 78 percent of all the votes of the Left Alliance.
In addition to Andersson, MPs Merja Kyllönen with 27,051 votes and Jussi Saramo , who received 4,897 votes, will go to Brussels from the left-wing coalition. Saramo passed with less than 5,000 votes thanks to Andersson's wild popularity."
Well deserved!

Can someone explain to me how this works? She got more votes than anybody else, but her party only got the second most votes, so 1. How is that even possible? 2. Do votes for individuals actually matter?
Just to be clear I am not European and these are genuine questions, I was so confused when I was reading the election results
