To my admittedly novice eyes, it looks like they’re flying the drones with the expectation that they are likely to lose contact with the drone at some distance from the target — whether from the trees or from a jammer. I think they’re essentially making sure that if the connection is lost, the built-up inertia will take it the rest of the way in.
I didn’t know they used HEAVY FLAMETHROWERS!
Damn, the exhaust from the firing in the first part made it look like a ship.
