Despite the rumors, I think Chiesa would actually thrive in this type of style. Conversely, Kostic has no place in a “2-7-2” and I really don’t think it suits Rabiot either as his touch and control (while better than 99.9% of human beings) isn’t necessarily world class
I am really hoping Motta can install a midfield capable of “playing through the middle.” We might have what we need on the roster already but need a lot of training together to unlock the team’s full potential. Not giving up on Miretti, Fagioli, Loca, and Wes just yet.

He is more likely not going to use this very exact system because of the players at his disposal. But the thesis is the same, dominating the middle of the pitch by creating numerical superiority.
