Opnieuw overschrijding spilindex verwacht: ambtenarenlonen en pensioenen gaan opnieuw omhoog

  1. Only one month ago: this was the last indexation for 2022…

What a joke. And this is once more only due to energy costs. The real inflation of consumables still needs to follow

  4. Pivot index to be exceeded again: civil servants’ wages and pensions to rise again

The Federal Planning Bureau expects the central index to be exceeded again in April, which means that civil servants’ wages and salaries will rise again. This is the fourth time in barely nine months. The main cause? The higher energy prices.

This month, February, the pivot index is also expected to be exceeded. This means that the pivot index will be exceeded four times in nine months. After that, according to the Planning Bureau, it will be 2024 before the pivot index is exceeded again.

Especially the high energy prices cause the pivot index to be exceeded. But the prices of food, cars and insurance are also rising sharply, according to the Planning Bureau. The Planning Bureau predicts that inflation will rise to about 8 percent in February. In December, the figure was still 5.71 per cent

Our expert Paul D’Hoore compares the inflation problem to a virus. “It is very difficult to get rid of when it is there,” he says. “The classic method of solving inflation is to raise interest rates.” If the Central Bank decides to raise interest rates, then borrowing becomes more expensive. “That makes it more expensive for everyone to borrow, to buy something. So then you think twice and maybe you don’t borrow,” says D’Hoore. In this way, the demand for the products should decrease and the prices will decrease as well.

Thus, if the central index is exceeded in April, public sector wages (in June) and social benefits (in May) increase by 2 per cent. High inflation also means that wages are rising in the private sector. However, this happens at a different pace in each sector. For some sectors, this happens monthly, for others annually.
