  1. Lie, then double down on that lie whatever evidence is provided.

Johnson’s legacy to the Conservative Party lives on.

  2. Honesty , integrity, ethics.

    They’re just words apparently.

  3. This Tory campaign is about as shameless as I’ve ever seen a campaign be, and boy is that saying something.

  4. I don’t get why he’s allowed to keep stating the lie (no, it being the sum over four years based on questionable methodology doesn’t make it true) seemingly without any repercussions, or why the media keep putting the figure in headlines etc.

In the past I’d have figured the latter was just the Tory-friendly press in action, but this one just seems utterly surreal – things like the BBC “fact checking” the number and concluding it’s misleading, but doing the Tory’s job by having the number in bold in the subheading.

  5. The really sad part of all this is that their supporters don’t care.

The Tories won’t lose any votes over lying. They’ll only win votes by doing so.

  6. Is this really the hill he’s going to die on?

If he just said “my bad, pesky advisors”, we’d be past it and grilling him for more of his appalling behaviour.

  7. Does anyone remember the days when Sunak promised “integrity, professionalism and accountability at every level”.

  8. Why are the Tories trying to lose this election?
What is going to happen in the autumn that they don’t want to be responsible for?

  9. Keir should’ve done a better job in his debate about the 2k tax rise, Rishi was throwing him that ball throughout the debate and he just stood there like a lemon shaking his head, now for many including myself I automatically think Labour will be increasing taxes.

  10. Spectator did the same maths with the Tory pledges and the figure came to £3K.

  11. I saw a political broadcast by the Conservative Party today and this 2000£ Labour tax claim was there main talking point too.

It’s like he wants to lose

  12. What gets me the most is the snivelling whiney attitude he gets when he’s stating that claim *again* after he’s been told we know it’s a lie.

  13. Lynton Crosby brought in this era of ‘dead cat’ and ‘its a lie but who cares’ thuggish politics. Cameron gave him a knighthood. The Tories are decrepit lying fucks. Glorious to think they may be wiped out in about 5 weeks.
