This is footage taken by Eric Vargas, a member of the Ukrainian International Legion, during the liberation of Kupiansk as part of the 2022 Kharkiv counteroffensive. The footage appears to show Eric arriving at a chaotic scene with multiple casualties before helping to evacuate them. This footage seems to begin immediately following the well-documented raid on the barricaded Russian Spetnaz during the liberation of Kupiansk. While clearing the building, the Russians called in artillery on their own position, resulting in multiple Ukrainian Foreign Legion casualties who had surrounded the building. The operation also resulted in the destruction of the barricaded Russian soldiers and the loss of Rory Mason, a Foreign Legion member from Ireland (mentioned by “Jabroni” near the end of Eric’s video). Several other members of the Foreign Legion were wounded during this operation.
This operation and the specific incident have been covered in several different pieces of media online:
Ah yes, they used swat style entry on a building in an all out warzone, 1st guy gets it ofc and a lot of them got smoked by artillery.
Erroneous using tactics from Afgh/Iraq where you had a lot of civilians and did not want to destroy infrastructure unnecessary.
What you do is peak and if there is anything, you pull the fuck out and back, and take rockets, a tank, artillery what ever and destroy the building. They kept around and fought with small arms in close quarter since they had a guy trapped, and the russians then just called artillery in on everyone. First round hit right outside the building. I’ve read its gotten better now, and the guys got better training now and experienced guys teach on. Traumatic shit
Was this the aftermath of CivDiv’s footage from 2022 during the counteroffensive???
Injured guy is still has his OCP pants and well-worn Garmont boots from Army service. Makes me proud and a little sad to see that.
