Russian friendly fire may have killed 15 after explosion at Belgorod apartments, expert claims

Thousands of civilians have fled their homes in Kharkiv as Ukrainian troops fight “fiercely” against Russian invaders.

Kyiv is valiantly repulsing the attacks of Vladimir Putin’s troops after launching a new assault on the Ukrainian region on Friday, threatening to open a new front in the 27-month war.

Ukraine’s military chief said on Sunday his country’s forces were facing a difficult situation in fighting in the Kharkiv region, just hours after Moscow confirmed the capture of five villages.

Russia has since said it had captured four more villages, despite Ukraine’s leadership not confirming Moscow’s gains, as Kyiv battles for control of the settlements.

    Witnesses have also said that the explosion came from the basement of the building.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the entrance to the house was destroyed during a massive attack on Belgorod, during which the Ukrainian Armed Forces hit the city with Tochka-U operational-tactical missiles, as well as the Vilkha MLRS and RM-70 Vampire. The house was hit by debris from a downed Tochka-U, the military department claims.

    While repelling the attack, Russian air defense systems destroyed six Tochka-U missiles, four Vampire MLRS missiles and two Vilkha MLRS missiles. Fragments of one of the downed Tochka-U missiles damaged a residential building in the city of Belgorod.

    However, some analysts believe that the strike was carried out by a French AASM HAMMER guided bomb. At that time, Ukrainian Armed Forces aircraft were observed in the sky over the Akhtyrsky district of the Sumy region; they returned to the Mirgorod airfield. The target of the strike could have been the Luch thermal power plant, which is located on the same Shchorsa street as the house where the bomb landed. The object is located 300 meters from the impact site. They note that French-made bombs have a limited flight range of 70 kilometers. Therefore, the plane launching the projectile had to fly quite close to the front line.
