Soup kitchens forced to shut as report finds more than half of Argentines in poverty • FRANCE 24

for 25 years father Toto has been doing social work in Shantytown 21 located in the south of Buenos AES but since Javier M became president the eight soup kitchens he runs have been cut off of food assistance from the government just like the other thousands of soup kitchens in the country they now only run thanks to private donations and volunteers every day they have to keep working with a little bit less recently I had to split a packet of pasta in half in order to share between two soup kitchens it had never happened before not even during the worst crisis we literally have described the bottom of the barrel but demand for food keeps on growing inflation now an interannual rate of 289 has destroyed the purchasing power of argentinians which had already been battered by many years of Crisis those who could keep their head above water like Miguel are now drowning these past three months he has been forced to come here to get his food all the prices have gone up so much I can’t make ends meat anymore so that way at least I save a little bit of money I would like not to have to come but I have no choice what else can I do without food to hand out dozens of soup kitchens have already had to shut down these women contributed their own money to buy the food for this activist Distribution Center this is our own way of protesting and saying to the government to give back the food but in almost six months of this new far-right Administration no answer has been given it’s inhumane to gamble like this with the hunger of the people an Argentinian court has recently forced the government to distribute 6,000 tons of food stored by the former Administration an amount insufficient compared to the magnitude of the food crisis in the country

More than half of Argentines now live in poverty, according to data released Tuesday, with levels rising non-stop since a year ago and quickening since budget-slashing President Javier Milei took office. With food shortages and high inflation rates putting Argentinians into financial stress, more and more need food but distribution centres have been forced to close.

  2. Yet Multinational food companies still continue making huge profits . Lack of regulation? Is it a man made crisis because politicians don't care about the people who vote for them ?

  3. This is going to happen worldwide, but I'm sure the leaders who don't care about the poor, will make sure they are alright until God's judgement comes to them. The only living God of Israel, Yehoshua Messiah

  4. Mr. Javier Milei has an uphill battle but I have confidence he will make Argentina Great Again.
The Country was already Destroyed. So blaming the mess on Milei is hardly fair.
The Argentine people will support each other over the hard time.

  5. No worries us Americans are feeling it too because half of us are now in poverty because of our government's policies to let illegals cross our border. Welcome to third world America.

  6. Y Argentina great football god don't help his people since he so great he can stop the hunger any day he wants to he busy playing football and enjoying life while his people hungry and the other footballers also and sports men and women should b helpo there people

  7. Unfortunately Soup Kitchens Are Not The Answer For The Poverty, President Javier Milei Fooled Everyone Just Like The Rest Of The Countries, I Would Hate To Be Them When Meeting With God, Oh Wait, They Don't Believe In God, This Is The Reason For The Tragedy And Sadness Of This Country, May God Save Their Souls!

  8. Those are sad news, which are a consequence of the previous FAR-left government disaster, but you somehow "forgot" to report earlier…

  9. Propaganda! No reform can work in 6 month after decades of corruption and crime. It’s happening worldwide. I live in Canada and we have no government changed for 14 years. Same situation. Monopolies take over our lives!

  10. Far Better Give away the Food to the Needy as not be Agricultural Dependent.

Argentina 🇦🇷 should Industrialize to be Modernized.

Can't Depend on Farming Sector for Revenue all the time.
