  1. Yes, you have to. Yes, you’ll be in trouble if you don’t. Yes, Germany is strict when it comes to breaking the law.

  2. Insurance is about 20€ per year, the fine if you get caught is 40€.

The cops can see it directly if you have insurance or not. So the risk is very high to get caught within one year.

At least you paid a few hundred bucks for the scooter, so you should have the 20€ for the insurance.

  3. short answer, yes!
If you do not comply with the requirements of registration, and insurance you can get fined and worse….

  4. If you’re involved in an accident where you bear some or all of the blame, do you really want to spend your life paying, say, for the medical care of someone who was permanently disabled?

Also, please don’t ride that thing drunk or stoned. We’ve had several posters recently who had thought this was an extremely clever thing to do (one hadn’t even been here a week).

They were caught with a level of drunkenness/drug intoxication that would mean losing their car driving license / having a hard time getting one if they didn’t have one yet, going to trial for a criminal offense, and having to take a hard psychological evaluation if they ever wanted their license (back).

    Don’t be that person.

  5. One thing is the fine when you break the law the other thing is not having an insurance. Have you ever thought how much you will have to pay in case of an accident? Maybe with a car getting damaged and a person getting injured? You *want* to have an insurance!
