Macron awards US veterans with Legion of Honour • FRANCE 24 English

[Music] there you can see on your screens the president of the French Republic Emanuel maon getting ready to decorate uh 11 US veterans with France’s highest uh civilian honor the legion uh of Honor he just spoke a short while ago thanking uh the sacrifices American soldiers made for the for liberating uh France uh said France will never forget he even said that they are home uh here in France I’d like to bring in France 24s getan goani Kean you have some there you can see Emanuel MC kissing uh the veterans who fought uh to liberate this country you have some details Kean on the uh the servicemen who are here yes the so there were officially uh 11 uh names on uh the the list that we received from the Elise Palace but as uh president presid M mentioned during his speech he uh spoke of one of them who could not be here uh today who of course at that age obviously this is something that we’ve been talking about the fact that these are men who are in their late 90s early 100s and one of them uh who uh is called Edwin cell could not make it today and Emanuel mcon had a word for him during his speech and now he’s uh giving that Legion the Legion of Honor uh to uh those 10 other veterans uh in the name of the French Republic to recognize their service because that is what the leion is about it’s eminent Service uh to the French nation and of course uh what greater service than fighting to liberate uh the country and in his speech uh he uh also mentioned all the others those who couldn’t be here today those who died uh during those uh battles during the day Landings and we see uh also the US president joining in uh on that uh ceremony there are a total of um 180 American veterans according uh to the White House present at this ceremony and Joe Biden before the start of uh this ceremony met with 41 of them uh we uh saw some images of him uh meeting taking pictures with those 41 veterans he also had a coin Commission presidential uh coin remembering uh the the service and those D-Day Landings with the number 9,388 engraved on that coin that is the number of uh fallen soldiers who are buried at the US Cemetery uh and of those 41 veterans that Joe Biden met with earlier uh today 33 of them were actually present on D-Day landed on uh D-Day in France uh and there we see President Emanuel mcon continuing to decorate those veterans

    Judging by ISW maps, the Russian army has captured a bridgehead on the left bank of the Dnieper opposite the city of Kherson. The Russian army is also achieving local successes in the eastern part of the front (Donetsk region).
