  1. Sadly this is completely pointless.

Nothing that occurs in that debate will remotely help people looking to buy a house.

  2. I’d prefer to see either one of them debate an expert, but this still might be okay for what it is – posturing and point-scoring

  3. I expect a lot of “But a SF TD blocked a housing project this one time so clearly it’s Sinn Fiens fault we are in this mess” from the housing minister.

  4. Prime Time week long focus..LOL

Nice to see they gave Miriam Sarah and Fran the week off. Louise is quite good in her own right tbf.

45 minutes on Tuesday night which had a Kitchen table chat between a 65 year old man and his daughter for the first 15 minutes if the show describing how he bought his first house.15 minutes of actual relevent figures and finished with the ~~expert~~ authority of Conor Skehan whose whole argument was that we lived in caves back in the 80’s.

Thursday will be a 15 minute argument between Dara and Eoin and another Kitchen table chat I suppose.

  5. If the debate has good moderation and a decent structure then it could be good but I feel like the most we will get are hand waves and flat out dismissals to any legitimate objection one makes about the other

It would probably be more worthwhile if RTE put Darragh O Brien in front of an audience of people who have been affected by this housing crisis and let him defend himself against their experienced issues and fault of his and legacy government policies that his government upholds.

  6. Anyone up for Minister’s comment bingo?

“I understand the pressures our young people are under”.

    “resources are not the issue”

    “this is a complex problem”

    “we can’t fix this overnight”

That last one is my favourite, I guarantee you’ll find the same politician saying the same thing on the same subject any number of times in the last 5 years.

  7. I could not be fucked listening to the two mouth pieces of our worst man made disaster take pot shots of each other.

I could not be arsed listening to whoever is presenting PT today drone on with their stupid power suits while standing in their shit studio.

I will just do my part, improve my home, make sure the ones I design are safe and decent, and I would like everyone else to do the same in every small way they can.

EOB or DOB or RTE will not solve this crisis, the Irish people will

  8. Daragh: So Eoin, we’ve a huge housing crisis and need house built. What’s your opinion on TDs and their party leaders who object to developments in their own constituencies.

  9. Prepare for them to push the blame onto builders and developers. I personally know two former developers who were building estates in the south east from the early 90’s until the crash, they used to make a fairly good markup buying land, developing it, selling houses off the plans and even keeping some of the houses themselves as rental properties.

They both still have some land that they overpaid for in the boom that they have no intention of building on because first of all the margins are far too low for them now, they have their money made and don’t need to take on millions worth of risk to make a few % profit and secondly they have to stand over a 25 year homebond guarantee, they still get calls from people for houses they build 20 years ago over stupid shit that has nothing to do with homebond.
