Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he is ready for peace talks with Ukraine but he has some conditions. Putin said he would end the war in Ukraine only if Kyiv gives up four of its regions and abandon its NATO membership bid. Russia claimed the four regions, which its forces control only partially, as part of its own territory in 2022. This action was rejected by most countries at the United Nations as illegal. Moscow also seized and annexed Ukraine’s Crimea peninsula in 2014. Putin’s conditions come just ahead of the Ukraine Peace Summit in Switzerland. Ukraine has rejected Putin’s proposal, calling his terms “unacceptable”.
