[Music] and let’s guest now to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine because it’s uh the second day of the G Summit meeting holding in um Italy and uh leaders appear to be making progress in their efforts to address Russia’s aggression the summit hosted by Italian Prime Minister Georgia milone s in attendance leaders of the European Union the UK Germany Japan Canada France and the United States and leaders discussed migration development policies for Africa and climate change and the US and the use of artificial intelligence is also respected to dominate discussions at the three day Summit on Thursday the Group of Seven leaders agreed to use a foreign Russian to to use frozen Russian assets to raise a 50 billion dollar for Ukraine to help it fight invading Moscow forces the Frozen funds not expected to arrive until the end of the year but it is seen as a longer term solution to support the Ukraine war effort and its economy now signed an historic new bilateral security agreement meanwhile Ukrainian President Vladimir zalinski who is also attending the summit has signed a 10-year bilateral Security deal with US President Joe Biden and what cave has now held as historic the agreement in VIs is US military train and training a to Ukraine but it does not commit Washington to sending troops to fights for its Ally according to the White House the security deal means Washington and Kev will work to build and maintain Ukraine’s defense and deterrence capability as well as Bluster the country’s defense industrial base and support economic recovery and energy security good evening everyone United States going to help ensure the United States going to help Ensure Ukraine can do both not by sending American troops to fight in Ukraine but by providing weapons and ammunition expanding intelligence sharing continuing to train Brave Ukrainian troops at bases in Europe and the United States Additionally the G7 achieved a significant outcome this week on the matter of Russia’s frozen assets in Europe and other places outside of outside of Russia this week this week the G7 signed a plan to finalize and unlock $50 billion from the proceeds of those frozen assets to put that money to work for Ukraine another reminder that to Putin we’re not backing down in fact we’re standing together against this illegal aggression yesterday the US Treasury Department made clear any Bank anywhere in the world that deals with sanctioned Russian Banks companies or individuals risk being sanctioned themselves and we announced roughly 300 new San stions on individuals and companies that are helping Russia with war effort they include key parts of Russia’s financial sector I wait till it goes over as well as individual and entities that Supply Russian with item critical to its defense production like microecon like micro Electronics machine tools and Industrial materials we also we also sanction more Russian Future Energy projects that Russia’s natural gas oil projects that are under construction and are not yet fully operating Putin is counting on revenues from these projects our sanctions will disrupt those plans we’ve taken three major steps at the G7 that collectively show Putin we cannot we cannot wait us out he cannot divide us and we’ll be with Ukraine until they Prevail in this war first is the bilateral security agreement just signed second historic agreement to provide $50 billion in value from Russian Sovereign assets to Ukraine and third an agreement to ensure our sanctions efforts disrupt third countries that are supplying Russia’s War efforts that will increase pressure on the Russian economy the agreement has good provisions on weapons for our defense where specifically on the Patriot systems where specifically on the supply of fighter squadrons to Ukraine that’s right plural squadrons including but not limited to f-16s we have worked for a long time for this and thank you Mr President for your leadership in the g7’s decision on 50 billion loan for Ukraine it’s vital step forward in providing sustainable support for Ukraine in winning this war Russian mobilized assets should be used for defending lives of ukrainians from Russian Terror and for repaying the damage aggressor caus to Ukraine you Chang let’s bring you more updates now around the world and more supports for Ukraine as NATO Secretary General Yan Stenberg says he’s optimistic to address the provision of more security Aid uh to Ukraine for a long time made the disclosure of speaking at a news conference in Brussels alongside Ukrainian defense minister rosam umov Mr Stenberg also pred the bravery and courage of Ukrainian Armed Forces for holding the fort at the battlefield we look forward to sit together with you in the NATO Ukraine Council where we are going to address both the immediate needs uh to provide more security assistance to Ukraine in particular the need for more air defense but also how to um make sure that we have a robust framework work for our support for the long term and to help you to build uh the future force of Ukraine was just attended uh the NATO or the the the us-led um uh contact group for Ukraine uh and uh their allies announced actually already more support for Ukraine uh this is extremely important uh so um we are urging allas to step further up uh and also to ensure that the assistance is delivered as soon as possible The Bravery the courage of you personally uh of the political leadership the military leadership but not least all the men and women in uniform uh along uh the battlefield uh on the battlefield in in Ukraine has impressed the whole world and they have enabled you to make significant achievements to uh to push back the Russian Invaders and and uh also inflict heavy costs on um the Russian uh forces uh and this is something which is important for Ukraine but also important for all of us because you are actually fighting uh for the values you all believe in uh I look forward to have a good meeting with you productive as always we appreciate for your uh personal leadership for the NATO Partners to uh for our urgent support and I look forward to discuss with you longterm uh cooperation models and I think it will be uh our uh last meeting before the Washington Summit which we look forward to have uh soon uh on the leadership level and uh uh we will be of course touching all the Urgent needs and the uh long-term uh necessity in the institutional changes that uh is being proposed once again for having thank you thank Youk now President Vladimir Putin has laid out his terms for a c fire in Ukraine now what’s the condition you may be asking well Mr Putin says Ukraine would need to fully withdraw troops from territories in Russia territories Russia claims to have Annex before a cease fire could begin speaking to a meeting of Russian ambassadors in Moscow Mr Putin called on the Ukrainian government to withdraw from four regions partially occupied by Russia and they include um dunx lank Kiren and zapia Ukraine has immediately reacted to this proposal calling eight quote offensive to Common Sense President Vladimir Vladimir zilinski has long said Ukraine will not negotiate with Moscow until Russian forces leave all Ukrainian territory including Crema the Russian president however also said Ukraine would have to give up on joining NATO before peace talks could start Mr Putin statement setting out his ceasefire conditions cons as leaders from 90 countries prepared to meet in Switzerland on Saturday to discuss Pathways towards peace in Ukraine a summit Russia has not been invited to and speaking of that all important Summit in Switzerland South Africa on the other hand is pushing for Russia to join the Ukraine peace talks South Africa Minister of Foreign Affairs and Nadi Pand says without the participation of Russia and the SS hosted Ukraine peace Summit it will not be possible to achieve peace real peacekeeping goals the Diplomat asked that if one side is absent it is just an exercise in futility president Raposa has maintained a contact with the two leaders of leader of Ukraine and President Putin of the Russian Federal ation and he’s always had a very good reception from both um we would like to see the two in a room and we’re increasingly working at persuading that there should be a meeting um in which Ukraine and Russia are present we’re concerned that there have been many where it is only Ukraine and other countries that are invited we believe if we are to have a successful negotiated outcome the two must be in the room uh uh together our own continent is impacted both by the sanctions against Russia as well as about the issue of food security so uh peace and security are critical for Africa’s progress and development and so we must continue to be a party to these uh peace efforts I’m not quite sure what it uh hoped uh would be achieved our own advice was was that it may be better to have a meeting at the officials level between Russia and Ukraine and then subsequent to that move on to a bigger uh uh conference but before deliberations between the two even if it’s at Inception stage we felt this wasn’t really a good step uh to take because it will be theater uh rather than a real uh focus on achieving uh a cessation uh or indeed a proper peace negotiation so we are we are concerned and it we will attend at the level of one of our advisers uh but our intervention would always be that there has to be the two in a room and greater effort must be directed at engaging uh Russia and ensuring that we bring uh the two into a space where uh a Way Forward uh can be mapped out in our view and from our experience having negotiated our own settlement with respect to a parate we know that you can’t tell us what the conclusion should be we are the ones who will determine it and that is why the two present talking to each other is absolutely imperative absent one you’re actually just it’s an exercise in futility so I think you have to get real and ensure that you begin a process that leads you out of the conundrum uh that exists currently [Music]
