Ukraine rejects Russian President Vladimir Putin’s peace proposal

Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered Ukraine a peace proposal which Ukraine quickly shut down.

Russia’s President says his country would end its war against Ukraine if Kyiv agreed to drop its NATO ambitions and started withdrawing troops from the four regions claimed by Moscow.

Vladimir Putin’s offer comes as world leaders gather in Switzerland for a Ukraine peace summit.

  14. There is a very simple realpolitik solution:

    1. Ukraine becomes a neutral buffer state between NATO and Russia.

    2. NATO ceases and desists from its aggressive expansion on the borders of Russia.

    THERE IS NO OTHER SOLUTION.

    Only fools would expect Russia to surrender captured Ukrainian territory. As in all wars, someone normally has to capitulate. We are now in the era of nuclear weapons, and threats of conventional military retaliation will ultimately lead to a nuclear holocaust. Russia is not bluffing because it has everything to lose in a conventional war against a superior NATO military force.

    Russia knows that if it lost in a conventional war, it would be carved up by NATO and large chunks of its territory would be given to countries like Poland, and the Baltic states: this is something that Russia would never accept.

    Zelensky is nothing but an American pawn – and it will be the people of Europe that will ultimately pay the price for NATO and Russian megalomaniac power games.

  19. Despite the citzens of the eastern region of Ukraine don't want to be a part of Ukraine, I will understand why Ukraine would still not want to give up its sovereign territory. That is like the United States giving up California to Spain should they want to secede.

  26. Problem is not whether Ukraine will get more weapons or not. The problem is that it cannot offer same number of soldiers as Russia, and you can have weapons of entire world available to you – if there's no one to fight then they are utterly useless.

    And you don't build capable army made of people kidnapped from streets, many of whom are ethnic Russians anyway.

  36. This was totally expected whilst the Biden administration is in power, Putin expected this. I think he is manufacturing consent with his people and brass to go after more territory unfortunately. Have to wait until next year with a Trump administration (if it happens) to see where there will all lead to.
    I suspect it will get worse for Ukraine in the interim and Europe, if NATO gets involved it will become more dangerous for the west in more ways than just military conflict, expect big stock market corrections and financial collapses. Again, It will be another massive wealth transfer from the middle classes. There are no levels heads in power from all sides, just crazy.
