Conservative mayor Marki-Zay will be the PM candidate of the Hungarian United Opposition

  1. Orban has been consolidating power and installing his apparachek for too long, to the point that Hungary has fallen from a democracy to an externally constrained hybrid regime.

He needs to be voted out.

  2. The fact that he is conservative isn’t the important part, he will lead a coalition made of 6 parties, all of whom agreed to a basic common program, which consists of points from each ideology taking part, it’s basically liberté égalité fraternité, but an entire program

  3. If the opposition wins, how stable is their government going to be?

I read that some opposition Parties even voted for Orbans anti gay law.

How is that not going to cause friction at some point?

  4. As long as Orban gets kicked out of leadership and the next prime minister is not eurosceptic populist, i will support Marki-Zay. Conservative or liberal, it does not matter as long as it saves Hungary from sharing Russia’s fate.

  5. This guy looks like he hasn’t graduated from his Bachelor yet

Edit: I just learned he has SEVEN kids. Lmao.

  6. Not a small feat. I congratulate him.
Fidesz will remain in power though, thats for sure.
The opposition is simply too fragmented, they all pull in different directions.

  7. I scrolled through the comments but haven’t seen anybody taking about how much did he spend on political propaganda.

Orbán (obviously) didn’t even run but Fidesz spent HUF 369 million (EUR 1 million) on ads trying to undermine the opposition, while Márki-Zay spent a mere HUF 3.7 million (EUR 10k).
