  1. I can’t take names like this seriously ever since Life of Brian.

  2. There’s a Life of Brian joke in there somewhere.

  3. France’s four largest left-wing parties, La France Insoumise, the Socialist Party, the Greens, and the Communist Party, have agreed to unite and run a single list of candidates for the upcoming parliamentary elections. Marine Le Pen’s party winning a plurality of votes in the European Parliament elections must have shocked the left into uniting ahead of the snap parliamentary elections that Macron called. And recent polling has shown that this alliance is in second place, right behind the National Rally and significantly ahead of Macron’s governing alliance. It’s very possible that they will stop the far-right from being able to win a majority of seats in Parliament, and they may even become the largest bloc in Parliament after the elections.

  4. Everyone knows that organisations with the word “front” in their title never resort to political infighting.

  5. Funnily enough the film actually uses the term “popular front”.

REG: We’re the People’s Front of Judea!

LORETTA: Oh. I thought we were the Popular Front.

    REG: People’s Front! C-huh.

FRANCIS: Whatever happened to the Popular Front, Reg?

    REG: He’s over there.

  6. This initiative to form a popular front in France against the rise of the far right is crucial in today’s political climate. By uniting various left-leaning groups and individuals, there’s potential to build a stronger voice for progressive values and effectively counter extremist rhetoric. It’s a reminder of historical movements that successfully stood up to intolerance and division, emphasizing solidarity and inclusivity instead.

  7. And they’re already starting to have internal tensions because of the announced candidates, which not only do not include several popular MPs, but also include extremely unpopular people, notably one already found guilty of domestic violence.

Yeah off to a great start

  8. If they don’t get realistic about immigration, they’re dead.

  9. What matters the most in the grand scheme of things is the commonality between the French left and far-right parties, and that’s that they are both conveniently against support toward Ukraine in its struggle against imperialist Russia.

They are all spokespersons for Putin’s interests in reorganizing European affairs to serve a new Russian empire. Who would have thought that tankies and fascists could work together (/s) to serve the discount Napoleon Bonaparte of our times.

  10. If they are so popular, why did they need to get together to win?
