Bridget Phillipson on Labour’s new nurseries pledge

you can’t say it’s 3,000 new nurseries if some of those nurseries already exist well for example what we’ve seen here today is that there is a provision for three and four year olds the school have told me they would like the opportunity you’re saying 3,000 new nurseries and you’re also saying that some of them already exist so they can’t be new if they already exist because it’s expanding it’s on delivering on the commitments that have been made to parents so it would be a new provision if the not new Nursery well in many cases it will be brand new but in other cases it will be the expansion of classes or the expansion of the age range that is available but it’s 100,000 places that is an awful lot of places and would make an enormous difference to families it would lead to 750,000 women being able to take on more hours it would have an economic impact as well as the life chances that were delivered for children you don’t think that’s slightly fudging the numbers echo of the 40 new hospitals that the conservatives promised at the last election no we’ve done our sums we’re serious about it and we’re confident we can deliver on it

  1. The only way we find out if Labour can do it is by voting them in.

We know categorically that the tories cannot, and will not.

There is no other sensible option. 🤷‍♂️

  2. Look here, Labour is trying, I find it rather rude in the way he's badgering. Its ok to question, if they can deliver what they promise, I'd be pretty please, beats Tory inaction.

  3. I’ve never been so disenfranchised by what’s on offer in a general election. There is literally nothing appealing here; rather we’re going through the motions which is apparently what this woman’s mouth is doing.

  4. so mums do more hours work to pay for childcare so the can work extra mm akes sense but childcare is fricking expensive and probably more than any overtime can bring in

  5. Not good questioning or reporting. "New" is irrrelevant .. what it means in real terms, new places for kids, is what is important.

  6. This country needs change.

Each time we vote in the other party it means a change of ideals, disruption, and damage to the economy.

We have a Labour party with outdated sociaIist dogmas desperately trying to drag itself into the current century creating much in-fighting.

We have a Tory party influenced by Industry and the weaIth of others. Need for leadership provokes underhanded activity.

Both Parties are corrupted by the possible future rewards of Knighthood and Lordship.

A change will shock the system, bringing new blood and new ideas.

Reform UK are the best option to achieve this.

  7. Exactly the same maths the tories tried to use when recruiting new members of the NHS and police force. Which consisted of over half existing members that were to be convinced to stay…. and they still didn't deliver

  8. I don't trust anyone who speaks as fast as a second hand car salesman.
Recalling stats like those, she could always get a 'chaser' job on The Chase.

  9. But where was this individual when the country was promised 40 new hospitals by the politician who was the Prime Minister at the time? Not sure that cretin was cross-examined.

  10. I can’t stand listening to it …., this disgusting woman, like so many of our career politicians is a disgrace !

  11. Incredibly hypocritical from Labour. Yes the tories lie and fudge the numbers a lot but here you are doing the same. No wonder this election is set to have the lowest voter turnout in postwar history. Most Politicians have been twats in the uk for a long time but 2024 is taking it to another level.

  12. A straight lie like that would get torn apart all over social media for days if a Tory did it. The bias is wild. Well done Channel 4, thought you would be a bit less keen to call the left out to be honest
