Anyone else dealing with one of these?

When we were buying our house, the solicitor was very, very clear that there was a drain/sewage connection in our immediate back garden. It seemed a bit weird at the time to emphasise this point so heavily.

A couple of years on and we now know why. In any extreme/heavy spells of rain this thing backs up and all the sh*te of the day (quite literally) backs up. It happens maybe a couple of times a year and gets cleaned up for free by NI Water as it’s a clear health and safety hazard.

But obviously we’d prefer it just…didn’t happen to begin with. I’ve spoken to the clean up guys that NI Water send out and they’ve said it’s just something we have to live with, no long term solution.

We’re wondering if that’s really the case or if something be done?

  1. Sounds like NI water are liable for it but are happy paying for the cost of a callout now and again rather than a redesign of the drainage. Would take legal action to change their mind. You could try being an absolute pain in their arse by complaining about the slightest bit of debris after every rain shower but I don’t know how much sway that would hold

  2. If the drainage is poor now, it won’t get better as flooding gets worse. It sucks….but if u can, I’d get ahead of it before Ur swimming in your living room some year. FFS, NI water should sort this out but that’s no help to u.
