  1. I hope we haven’t just forgotten about this. There have been further developments since this article too and I would implore you to educate yourselves on what’s happening to this poor man. I’ve heard him speak and he sounds like a salt of the earth type. Why would the council be targeting him this way and why is he practically invisible on news searches?

  2. It’s because they want to make an example of him. Can’t have people doing what he’s doing. It’s a housing catastrophe but money is being made for the elite and that can’t be interfered with.

  3. Where are the local politicians here? It’s shit like this that make people vote far right.

  4. Think they want to make an example out of him.

The state doesn’t like it when people do things without their permission.

Most of our politicians are landlords and business people, they can’t have the poor working out cheaper solutions for homes.

  5. Now ye might understand some of the frustration with locals from Clonmel regarding the building of modular homes to house immigrants.

  6. I feel for this man but I can’t see a way that his home would be allowed. Building regs have very high standards and I don’t see a modified caravan ever being able to meet them.

The truth is a lot of these log cabins and static caravans are predicated on having sound neighbours. If you’re doing something obviously against the rules and somebody notices you’re fucked.

  7. What’s the state of play at the moment? This article is a few months old. Shameful what’s happening to him, have they actually anything better to do….

  8. More than likely he will be forced I can see the councils making a few examples as there are little cabins all over going up at the moment.

Know of a site locally where someone has done the same, the land isn’t big enough for a dwelling and is on a very wet area of land so the septic tank would damage the water table. Council are moving on it because of the damage it could do .

  9. The type of accomodation he’s built for himself cannot be allowed. If you apply this kind of development everywhere, it’s a complete disaster for the countryside in nearly every metric.

But we do need social housing for people like this man. Social housing delivered across every rural town. Small apartment blocks dedicated to just those over 65 on the waiting lists.

This type of delivery (housing for >65) already exists through a funding stream called CAS.

There’s actually really good example of in Tipperary itself. It’s called Baker’s Lot in Carrick-on-Suir.

Email your new councillors, and demand it for your area.
