  2. As one of the most successful and valuable US companies, how Apple gets treated by China depends a lot on how US-China relations are going.

    For example, the Chinese government banned the use of iPhones for government officials and made a very big deal about it. The point was to steer the population into using Chinese brands and to show that the government sees Apple as a potencial foreign weapon. And it worked, despite the fact that they don’t have any smartphones that are more secure than iPhones and the competition is mostly using Android, which is also made by an US company.

    For a company in Apple’s position the Jon Stewart show was just asking for trouble, even if personally all the executives agree with him and probably have some stories they could tell about having to deal with the Chinese government.
