Man, that would have been a very bad casting.
I’m glad he turned down the role particularly because of the masterpiece we got from him instead, Master and Commander. Came out the same time as RotK, and is still one of my favorite movies.
And we all lived happily ever after
Wow Russel Crowe being super respectful and stepping out it as to not get in the way of Jackson’s vision… that’s a really selfless thing to do
There was a lot of weird casting with LOTR. Sean Connery was considered for Gandalf is another weird casting example. Can you imagine his accent butchering all of the names? XD
SHauron. SHaruman. BagginSH. Pretty much the only thing in Middle Earth he’d say correctly is Shire.
All of that being said. I’d love to see that alternate reality LOTR.
So from what I’ve heard and read here and there, the casting choices for Aragorn were supposed to be:
1st: Russell Crowe
2nd: Stuart Townsend
3rd: Viggo Mortensen
Good on him for doing that. I’m sure he still would’ve been great, I’ve never seen him phone it in or put in a bad performance.
Tracking orcs, making songs and foitin’ all over Middle Earth!
Russel please… Luckily we had Vigo and LotR movies are endlessly re-watchable.
