now in Ukraine Elite military units play a crucial part in defending Waterfront lines such as those along the nepro river and the Black Sea and it’s more complicated than defending the front on land it requires specialist skills and Equipment DW’s karolina chamoy joined one Naval unit during their training as they were ambushed by a Russian drone hide the boat F take cover a Russian drone is threatening us it’s just in front of us what started as an exercise has become now a serious situation we’re tracking the we have to move the Russians know how important these training sessions are to Ukraine’s forces Ukraine has a nearly 600 kilomet water border that needs to be defended against Russian aggression this is why special units like this one are crucial for for Ukraine’s military despite this being a training exercise conditions simulate real case scenarios and given the fact that the country is at War a real Attack can happen any time these Ukrainian soldiers are putting themselves into difficult situations so they can react instinctively as a team without making a sound the most difficult thing is saving the wounded evacua ating them and delivering them to a medical facility under enemy drone and Aviation threat covertly evacuating someone in an aquatic environment is the worst case [Music] scenario this Naval Special Forces Unit has to be able to do that and much more as part of its job defending Ukraine’s water borders the Russian Fleet could disembark thousands of troops anywhere along the coastline if we don’t have appropriate weapons and Personnel they could occupy cities like Odessa cutting Ukraine off from the Black Sea our strategic routes pass through the sea we can’t win the war without access to the Black Sea we have to keep control of this region the unit also includes who risk their lives in waters littered with mines each operation is a challenge we often go in first to check the bottom the coast and part of the land area to detect enemy observation posts or avoid detection each location and job is new we divers need better equipment to detect mines and minimize underwater time in enemy territory current detection means are only short range requiring close proximity to the enemy we need tools for longer underwater travel to avoid putting our boats at risk this would allow us to operate 10 to 15 kilomet from the enemy’s Shore navigating their way through mines when they get to shore is also crucial some of these men were involved in liberating snake island and the fight for marup one told us he survived the minefields only to be caught by the Russians I was in captivity for many months the Russians knew everything about me my rank position in unit because of this we were treated specially subjected to torture I realized our enemy has no Humanity or Mercy when I returned I was determined to fight again knowing the human body can withstand incredible things and now he’s fighting again back with his unit these men are young committed and extremely motivated but they say they are not enough I think it’s impossible to change the course of the war with these tasks alone in order to change the course of this large- scale War much more effort is needed from the leadership of our country for example a new law on mobilization because there are not enough people we have losses I’m no longer talking about our troops only but about the Infantry we have losses these men might be the sharp tip of the Ukrainian Armed Forces yet they worry that without more and better weapons and more people behind them all this could be in vain

    Who needs these staged “drone attacks” and “cold torture stories”?
    Hey, mistreatment of POWs really does exist on both sides. If this guy really went through this, he wouldn't talk so calmly… plus he has all his limbs in place.
    An interesting fact, if you look at an interview six months ago or more, you will notice that the soldiers do not hide their faces. What does this tell us?

  9. The morale of the Ukrainian army has been broken. The Russians are slowly grinding the already incomplete brigades to dust. The pessimism of these men is palpable and obvious. Sadly human sacrifice and suffering is never a factor that the warmongers in power care about.

  18. Did anyone notice the guy rocking the Daniel Defense carbine? Made in Savanna GA. I’m impressed with the customized optics. I didn’t know military units still used aim points (I thought trijicon had taken over) or that that the flip magnifier was a thing outside the civilian market. Either way that is some beautiful weaponry those guys have. I highly approve!
