Late 90s I bought a Mac Plus for a fiver, dodgy screen and missing a mouse
It lives in the attic for years until 2012 I’ve bought a house and clearing out my junk from my mum’s
Solder the screen joint, buy a cheap mouse and that type of floppy disk OS and programmes to see it working (probably a tenner spent)
Put it up for sale, someone offers £300
Fairly new kilt, plus kilt jacket in a rarely round 54 inch chest!
My grandad used to look over pretty much everything at Carboots
he made a large chunk of money selling scrabble letters on ebay and easily made thousands from doing it over the years
Brand new, with tags real leather jacket for a fiver.
Do charity shops count? Slowly bought the entire Discworld collection for 50p-£1 per book including a signed copy of Thief Of Time.
Also got the entire UglyDolls plush collection still with labels on for £1 each. We donated them back after a few years in the end
I bought some Guitar Hero guitars for a Xbox and PlayStation for a pound each. I didn’t own an Xbox so just put on my table of stuff and sold it 5 mins later for £5.
Got our daughter’s pram from a car boot. Paid £20 for it, it was in perfect condition and had all the accessories with it. Brand new it would have been nearly £500.
It was an older couple selling it that bought it when their granddaughter was born. Turns out they never really needed to use it because whenever their granddaughter was left with them, so was the pram the parents had bought. So the one we bought had essentially been sat there not being used for 2 years.
Old David Bowie and Faces vinlys , stuff Id never heard at the time. 30p each!
I bought a Mitchell automatic fly fishing reel, I wanted to have a crack at fly fishing.
As you spooled out line it wound up a little spring inside, then you just pulled a trigger to reel in all the slack line, fancy as fuck if you ask me.
Got it for £5
Sold it 2 months later to someone for £85 they said they got a bargain (I failed to mention what I paid)
I collected fountain pens and would get them cheap from car boot sales or auctions back in the 90’s. The collectors market for them exploded in the last decade or so, some sell for hundreds i.e. vintage montblancs, pelikans, Waterman, etc.
What’s the upsell price of the can? I’ll give you £1 if I can shake it first.
I picked up a few vinyl over the years and various retro video game bits and bobs including a still wrapped (not sure if it had ever been used) Dreamcast for a few quid (sorry I can’t remember how much – I want to say under £20).
however my crowning achievement is for the sum of £5 a little 35mm camera in a leather case… when space permitted I collected film cameras and knew it was special…. A near mint Nikon 35ti (sitting not 6 feet away from me).. Currently going for around £700 on Ebay.
Years ago I got a leather jacket from a car boot sale for a quid which lasted me about 17 years. Only binned as the sleeve started falling off. And to be honest I’d have kept wearing until the sleeve did fall off, I loved it that much, but my wife was getting embarrassed.
