Rightwing mom was so outraged by this book about book banning that she got it banned from school. A Moms for Liberty school board cabal is responsible for this sad irony.

>In a decision dripping with irony, a Florida school board has banned a book about book banning from the district’s libraries.
>*Ban This Book,* a children’s title by Alan Gratz, was removed from shelves in Indian River County school libraries after the county’s school board voted 3-2 to ban it.
>Amy then creates a secret banned-books library, according to Gratz’s description, walking into “an unexpected battle over book banning, censorship, and who has the right to decide what she and her fellow students can read.”
>*Enter Indian River County Moms for Liberty chair Jennifer Pippin, who played the aggrieved parent alleging Ban This Book was inappropriate.*
>*Pippin challenged the Indian River County School Board to remove the title, enlisting two members, Jacqueline Rosario and Gene Posca, who received Moms for Liberty endorsements in their campaigns for school board seats.*
>The third “yes” vote came from member Kevin McDonald, who was recently appointed to the board by Florida Gov. [Ron DeSantis](https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2023/03/who-is-ron-desantis-where-does-he-stand-on-lgbtq-rights/) (R).

>***In the formal motion banning Ban This Book, members said they disliked how it referenced other books that had been removed from schools. More than that, the book was “teaching rebellion of school-board authority,” the board wrote.***
>*The vote to ban Ban This Book overrode the district’s book-review committee, which had earlier vetted the children’s title and decided to keep it on library shelves.*
>*Author Gratz* [*told the Tallahassee Democrat*](https://www.tallahassee.com/story/news/politics/2024/06/11/florida-school-board-bans-book-about-book-bans/73970418007/) *that the vote was “incredibly ironic.”*
Alan Gratz is an amazing author. I love his books. Moms for Christian Nationalism decided to ban Alan Gratz Ban this Book because it teaches that fascism is bad and that it’s important to question and stand up to fascist authority.
If it wasn’t clear that Moms for Christian Nationalism wants nothing but blind obedience, a la Stanley Milgram, this should make it plain and obvious.
Author Gratz told the Tallahassee Democrat that the vote was “incredibly ironic.”
“They banned the book because it talks about the books that they have banned and because it talks about book banning,” he said.
The book was “teaching rebellion of school-board authority,” the school board said.
If it walks like a fascist,
talks like a fascist,
and acts like a fascist,
must be a fascist.
> Board Member McDonald replaced Brian Barefoot, a Democrat who resigned when he moved out of the Indian River County School District — or so he thought. Barefoot learned the next day that his new home was, in fact, in the same school district. He rescinded his resignation.
> He never heard back from the board.
What. The. Fuck.
Streisand Effect incoming.
Well, isn’t that just the plot twist of the century! Rightwing mom banning a book about book banning?
Supported by “Citizens Defending Freedom” but never your freedom to make decisions for your own kids. That would be too free.
Can we start a Dads For Liberty to try to undo all this nut job nonsense this group tries to pass?
I live in Florida, these disgusting scumbags have huge support from people living here, especially the right wing migrants from the northeast and Midwest that flooded in during Covid. This state is fk’d.
Remember kids are smarter than us. They see this stuff and will revolt against it
I agree and all, but that’s not irony.
Get lawyers
These people are trash.
what sad lives these people lead.
This made it into this weeks “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me”.
I saw this episode of The West Wing.
The stupid, it hurts.
It’s not ‘sad irony’ it’s straight up fascism.
Well that’s it. My brain when I now read the word “rightwing” autocorrects it to my consciousness as “ringworm” for some reason now.
How can they keep accepting this one lady’s submissions so easily??
America. 😥
I’m sure the book with stories like the one about two daughters getting their dad drunk and fucking him is just fine, though.
Their short hairs would absolutely curl and burst into flame if they knew the books my son in 5th grade can read, and no one bats an eye because we’re not puritanical right wing Moms for liberty ruled school districts.
The anne frank diary in graphic novel version that made them clutch pearls. (one panel in the graphic novel is all they got wound over). The booklet on puberty in very forthright real terms, a novel he’s reading where a character does utter a profanity. ( mom, is that ok? me: sure. its fine dude.)
seriously. book banning is idiotic. don’t want your kids reading certain books, great, stay the feck out of everyone else’s business, but that’s the whole thing, they want to be in everyone’s business.
