Highest point in each European nation (elevation)

  1. I would not consider Kazakhstan, Turkey, Russia, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan “European”

    Edit: Also Cyprus

  2. Curious story I heard from a mountaineer friend of mine, Greeks would place stones on their highest peak (Olympus, 2917m) to make it the highest peak in the Balkans, overtaking Musala peak in Bulgaria at 2925m. Bulgarians climbing Olympus would occasionally remove the rocks if there had been any new ones “assembled”. Might just be a story but it’s funny to me. Like that island that switches between Canada and Denmark and each leaves a bottle of booze.

  3. Funny fact, the highest point in Spain is not in Europe.

It’s the Teide vulcano in Tenerife, 3718m

The highest Spanish point in Europe is the Mulhacén mountain (Granada) with 3479m.

  4. SUCK IT DENMARK!

I also wanna give a shout out that their highest peak of 147,3 m is called Himmelbjerget which would roughly translate to Skymountain or Heavenlymountain

  5. Technically the highest point in the Netherlands is on a caribbean island called Saba: Mount Scenery, with an elevation of 887 meter.

  6. Mainland Portugal only reaches the 1000-2000m category, but gets a boost from Mt. Pico in the Azores at around 2300m. Also, LOL@Kaliningrad, but fair and well-earned!

Another fun fact: the highest mountain outside the Alps anywhere in the EU is actually Mt. Teide on Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain, standing at some 3700m.

  7. If we go by topographic isolation (elevation over 1 500m) then Galdhøpiggen, Norway’s largest mountain, would be fourth in europe.
