If the DUP, as they beleive, are in the right, then the EU will be going against the GFA if they threaten NI with some sort of retaliation.

Poots doesn’t have any power in this, only responsibilities. His legal duty is to carry out those checks, which are required by an international treaty that the UK as a whole signed into international and domestic law.
This will go to court instantly, definitely from Sinn Fein and possibly from the Civil Service as well who are sick of being put in the firing line over this shit and just want competent direction that doesn’t involve giving them illegal orders and forcing them to take sides.
The EU will sit back and watch, *possibly* while suspending discussions but honestly I don’t think they’ll do more than raise an eyebrow and ask Liz Truss to keep the fucking kids quiet while the adults are talking.
If you ever want to see a group of people on the losing side just tune in to the DUP every few weeks
