My Colorado neighborhood has Linden trees. The Bulgarian word is “липа” (li-pa). When I was kid, I used to climb these trees, pick the flowers, and sell them to the local babushkas for something like 1 lev per kilo (approximately $0.55 usd). They are used for herbal tea in the Balkans. Of course, I spent the money on ice cream and arcade game tokens. What a time to be alive!

Is this still a thing?

  1. You won’t see any kids picking those but obviously they are still being picked with commercial purpose. My neighborhood in Sofia also has quite a few at least on my street but they are mostly used to fuck up cars parked under them. Like just 24 hours are enough to make your entire car super sticky and in need of urgent car wash.

  2. gypsies are still doing it, they really like picking “free stuff”. Sometimes their “free” is actually your property, but this is another topic.

  4. Yes . Most definately . What is life without linden tea , after all ?

  6. Not picking – sweeping it off the sidewalk and selling it!
