The largest lake in each EU country

  1. IJsselmeer used to be a sea until we build a dyke to cut it off from the North Sea. Also it used to be bigger but part of it was drained to create a new province.

  2. Why is Bodensee counted fr German? It is on the German/Austrian/Swiss border and not all if it belongs to Germany alone. In fact, there is no agreement as to hwere the borders are, so it doesn’t make sense to count it as just German, because it is just as German as it is Austrian (or Swiss).

  3. More than half of the lac Léman is in Switzerland, it’s a little bit disingenuous to say it’s French.

  4. Inside the country you can barely throw a rock without it landing in a lake. They are everywhere and straight roads are nowhere to be seen the further inland you go.

  5. Does Belgium have any lakes that are not artificial?

Edit: Also, that’s a big picture – a png weighing in at 2676 kb. Compressed, without loss of detail, it becomes a 1847 kb png, or a 591 kb jpeg xl. Reddit should take the load off it’s servers with support for the new jpg. Just saying.

  6. Inner Carniola regional park official website says that at fullest it’s 26km^2. Not 38km^2. Fun fact, it goes from 0-26km^2.
