Final declaration of Ukraine Peace Summit signed by more than 80 countries, ‘a strong signal’

first a peace Summit aimed at uniting Global opinion on how to end moscow’s invasion in Ukraine has wrapped up in Switzerland the first of its kind the two-day conference in bergenstock brought together leaders and delegations from more than 90 countries including US vice president Kamala Harris it was not however attended by Russia or China while a joint declaration released following the talks called for Ukraine’s territorial Integrity to be respected and agreed that dialogue between all parties is needed for a lasting settlement well for more we can bring in our correspondent govic Craig who’s standing by for us in ke G what are the main takeaways from this unprecedented Summit and can Ukraine call The Summit a success well I think on the basis of the fact that 56 countries sent their heads of state or government and 30 sent uh foreign ministers or a similar level the number of countries represented is pretty impressive though it’s slightly less than half the world world if you take the 193 countries that have votes in the United Nations General Assembly so it falls slightly short of Ukraine’s ambition and also they very much wanted China to participate and the Chinese refused to participate and according to the ukrainians tried to persuade some countries not to participate nevertheless the town out is pretty strong and it means that there will have been a lot of media coverage of Ukraine in all the countries that sent representatives and you know that includes most countries in Latin America several of the biggest countries in Africa countries that are far from Europe where of course media coverage of what’s going on in Ukraine is pretty uh constant uh anyway now they came up with this final declaration with somewhat watered down language compared to what Ukraine would have wanted but not as watered down as had been moted in the weeks leading up to the conference some early drafts were leaked uh that showed the language much more watered down than Ukraine wanted but it doesn’t talk about Russian aggression in Ukraine it talks about about Russia’s war in Ukraine and although it does call for the respect of territorial Integrity it does not say it straight in terms of something like Ukraine’s territorial Integrity must be restored it talks more about the principles of respecting uh the United Nations chter you can see that every word in that Declaration was chosen very carefully in order to try to get as many countries as possible on board and nevertheless only 80 of the 92 countries present signed it notably Saud Arabia India Brazil were among the big countries that did not sign that declaration though Saudi Arabia has expressed an interest in hosting a second Summit where uh everybody seems to be saying the Russian side could be invited all right G Craig reporting for us there from ke thank you so much for that update

Dozens of countries agreed Sunday dialogue “between all parties” and respect for Ukraine’s territorial integrity as a route to ending the war between Kyiv and Moscow. The vast majority of the more than 90 countries taking part in a summit in Switzerland supported a final communique that also urged the return of deported Ukrainian children and a full exchange of captured soldiers.
But the document was not endorsed by some countries that maintain close ties with Russia, like India, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Gulliver Cragg, France 24 correspondent in Kyiv, has more.

  1. Joke of the Millennium!! Russia is not at the table and this is called peace summit!!! “Vacation in Swiss” would have been better title.

  2. Why is Ukraine asking for a peace summit now when it chose to walk away in 2022 from the agreement reached in Turkey between Ukraine and Russia ? And why are the people who forced Ukraine to abandon that agreement hosting such road shows ?

They advised Ukraine to avoid a negotiated settlement in 2022 and continue the war, they armed and trained Ukraine to launch a counter offensive in 2023, so why are they participating in such a road show now and saying Russia is isolated ?

Western foreign policy is an unbelievable disaster.

  3. Only 1 country must agree and they were not invited to participate.
Can't do a UN Resolution so this is a new gathering to bypass the UN being the only endorsed worldwide authority that matters.

  4. They were trying to add Iraq and Jordan to list of countries that signed the resolution, but they diidnt sign it. Already at that point they discredit themselves as actors for peace negotioations.

  5. It is by definition impossible to hold a "peace summit" with only one of the parties in the conflict present. It is irrelevant how many other nations you invite. It is like sayng that you're clapping with only one hand. Only NATO would think that such a thing is sane, or rational. What an enourmous waste of money, time, and resources, while Ukrainian troops countinue to die in droves, unnecessarily. Shame on Zelensky. Shamen on NATO. Shame on the US. This horror show needs to stop. Immediately.

  6. This is the peace summit. Russia is absent cause confirmed for the Lahaye trial, don't confuse between the two.

  7. 😂 the countries that matter and who can help in resolution of the issue either didn't sign or came…eh… India, Saudi Arabia, China didn't fall for this farce called peace summit

  8. Uk ,france ,Italy, germany and all nato nato nations can't even fart without joe biden's permission. its about time to declare joe biden is the true king and the president of europe.

  9. You do realize that means no joint declaration. Just some countries sign sth without majority agreeing

  10. Less than 80..

Iraq and Jordan was later announced to be added 'by mistake'
    LoL
And the following refused to sign that piece of sh*t: India, Brazil, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Mexico, UAE, Colombia, Bahrain, Libya, Jordan, Iraq, Armenia, Vatican.

  11. This '"summit" taken place was only to secure better salary and pension packages for current regime politicians.. Offshore investments already secured!

  12. It is 77 countries, not "more than 80" and second, no one asked the countries to accept, they was put to the list…..
