Italian authorities seek to combat over-tourism on Amalfi Coast • FRANCE 24 English
[Music] this is one of the most beautiful coastlines in Europe the Amalfi Coast which has been a UNESCO world heritage site for nearly 30 years with its sheer Cliffs descending into the sea the area is overrun by hundreds of thousands of tourists every summer it’s beautiful but very very crowded just overcrowded it’s hard to see anything in the amount of time that you get to visit these small places so it’s hard to do anything you feel like you’re hurted like cattle we’ve seen people from Argentina from all over Europe from the States from everywhere the whole world is here I think that limiting the number of people it’s kind of hard but it would be a good option to avoid these crowds to control the crowds a plan of alternate circulation has been put in place during the busiest days the objective to limit the flow of tourists and the traffic jams on the only road that connects the 10 Towns on the coastline on even days only the vehicles with an uneven number plates can come through and people that have a reservation at one of the area’s hotels they’re exempts from the fine anyone who doesn’t follow the new rules can be fine 60 like these tourists who find out about the measure way too late the entire car company didn’t tell us you know you come to Naples you want to visit and sento you want to drive theal Coast we had no idea despite the frustration for some tourists Amalfi’s mayor defends the initiative a delicate place like this requires specific measures tourism has to be managed and not endure it’s clear that this is a sought-after tourist area it’s suffering from a phenomenon that could profoundly change our community a new bill with even stricter measures is being looked at by the Italian parliament its purpose to put limitations on traffic for the whole stretch of the 10 Towns of the amaly coast
The Italian government is seeking to battle over tourism on the Amalfi Coast, one of the most beautiful and visited coastlines in the world and classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Authorities have put in place a plan of alternate circulation during the region’s busiest days to avoid traffic jams on the only road that connects the ten towns on the coastline.

“Tourism has to be managed, not endured”. Even if that was a translation, it is well said
For decades The Almalfi coast was commercialized for decades I guess it worked to well. Italy has pushed tourism as a way to make money without any increase in industrial capacity the lesson is be carefully of what you wish for.
People have too much free time to constantly trek around the globe
The most tragic part was I was near Amalfi and never went.
There are many Italian beaches that are very beautiful and far less crowded.
Go for a week, not a 3 hour stop on a bus.
Great idea! We were there last year in August. It was very crowded and had the feel if being a bit tired and washed out. But please, car hire companies, let your clients know!
