On this day, the 1st of February 1985. Greenland leaves the European Union, becoming the first country to do so.

  1. Well, who needed the EU in the days where there was plenty of fish in the sea, climate change was barely even a thought in the minds of science, and Denmark was able and willing to pick up the tab if anything was needed?

  2. There was no European union in 1985 but only the European Community. And Algeria left before Greenland.

  3. This is not true. Greenland was not a member country, so Greenland couldn’t be the first to leave.

Greenland was and still is part of a member country, but EU rules don’t apply to Greenland any more since 1985.

  4. The dude that posted this thinks Greenland is a country…. that’s well you can see the level of just sheer ignorance on display on here.
