Brexit: France set UK two-week deadline for new fishing deal

  1. Were did GBnews get this “two-week” deadline from?

It’s not like they are the most trusted source out there…

  2. Imagine threatening energy and military cooperation over 30 small fishing boats lol. The French have lost their minds. I don’t care if there’s an election. If this is type of insanity that politicians have to do to appear electable, that says a lot about the French public.

  3. What?

Werent France complaining the UK wasnt sticking to agreed deals?

Now here we sre the French not keeping to it.

  4. Or what?

France doesn’t have any leverage against the UK.

If the EU had granted equivalence in financial services, it could have been something they could threaten to takeaway.

But they haven’t – Britain has nothing to lose. Same with energy – don’t really need French energy (the swing supplier is Norway, which is outside the EU.

  5. Remember, it’s the french that are so obsessed with the UK on Reddit. A British sharing a British media is because of french redditor!

P.S : just to be clear, before saying GNGNGN it’s France. Have fun trying to find the last Macron talk about that issue 🙂

  6. Man I love the Brexit threads 2.0 that get swarmed by British posters all upvoting each other and shitting on France/EU/Europe in general and repeating same five fucking phrases. Makes for a great, productive, intelligent discussion and are definitely worth participating in. Mind you, Brexit threads 1.0 aka “let’s all shit on Brits” weren’t exactly good but these are somehow more obnoxious. I will say this, Brits in general have a bad case of “I am the main character” mentality where anything they do is justified at worst or reasonable at best and anything anyone does against them is a grave offense that shows their true character.

  7. I find it mildly infuriating that the UK has been ragged upon consistency, quite rightly so in some cases, for going back on clauses in the Brexit deal.

That criticism isn’t without merit, countries should stick to the deals they make with others, and I find the way the UK has conducted itself, burning up its trusted reputation, as regrettable and disappointing.

However, what I find even more infuriating is that when a country such as France, who has been very vocal in its criticisms of the UK, then turn around and do the same malpractice, only far more aggressively; with all the grace and tact of a child having a tantrum.

The UK’s fishing rules aren’t unreasonable, but France wants to have its cake and eat it, the very thing it accuses the UK of doing.

  8. ffs nobody gives a shit about this, except 50 fishermen in France and all of the UK reddit population.

  9. Having to effectively sit out the most significant event of the last century while their historic rival played a very central part in said event inflicted damage to the collective French psyche we’ve seen for decades after their empire died right up until today.

Go ahead and lump my comment in with the likes of the “cheese eating surrender monkey” meme if it makes you feel better. You know it’s true.

Nothing else explains why a people who have every reason in the world to be proud act like this in response to minor slights, real or imagined, from a people they’ve lived next to peacefully for generations.

  10. Every thread about this fishing row is heavily brigaded and manipulated by the Brit brigade, as anyone can see. Every single one. As soon as they hear “fishing” they rally en masse.

    Sort by controversial.
