Silly me, I forgot that using nuclear energy automatically means we will wage nuclear wars and that this is in any way correlated.
Het is zeer moeilijk de impact in te schatten. Sommig kernafval blijft meer dan 10.000 jaar gevaarlijk.
Als de oude egyptenaren hun piramides met kernenergie hadden gebouwd, zouden we nu nog weten waar hun afval ligt, en zeker zijn dat t niet in ons voedsel terechtkomt? En dat is nog maar zo’n 4.500 jaar geleden…
Langs de andere kant, voldoende snel een alternatief gebouwd krijgen is blijkbaar politiek niet mogelijk.
This is only an article about nuclear energy and its disadvantages. I think we all know from the past years that nuclear energy is not the solution to our current problem and keeping them open will have consequences.
But we are now in a situation were the options are limited and even in this article they do not come with a solution. Keeping nuclear energy as a transition till we have enough durable sources or replace them completely is not discussed in this article.
You could make a same article about gas energy stations and have the same conclusion that they are not an “ideal alternative” for nuclear energy. (you could take into account gas pipeline attacks, natural disasters,…)
What for me would be useful is one full report comparing gas stations to nuclear energy (both with green energy) and all the effects on climate, energy stability, supply, effect on environment (short and long term), influence by (stability of) foreign countries for raw materials, influence on our air by our neighboring countries,…
There are enough articles about advantages and disadvantages of a certain source of energy…
A whole bunch of nothing in this report if you ask me. Just fearmongoring. Tell me, why does France have 56 (!) nuclear reactors without hiccups and this country brightest minds seem to think we’ll wage war if we build more nuclear reactors?
Do they even want viable new reactor types through innovation? All they mention is that it would take too long to meet an artificially set deadline of 2035, so we should not even try?

Wat een verrassing, Gilbert zou toch moeten weten dat zelfs als we alle centrales sluiten, we nog steeds actieve reactoren nodig hebben (met dezelfde risico’s) voor het kweken van radioactieve isotopen, voor gebruik in de medische sector.

I hate the argument saying that the nuclear waste is still dangerous.
Yes, but at least we have it contained to a specific location instead of billions of particles of waste being spewed into the air daily by other forms of energy generation. That we than breathe.

Germany has been emitting far more co2 than France despite the fact that they have invested a lot more money in renewables.
Nuclear Will be important in the future.
We kunnen nog geen voetbal stadium of shopping center bouwen, laat staan een nieuwe kerncentrale. (spijtig genoeg).
Het probleem zit niet in met welke co2 neutrale technologie we electriciteit opwekken (en evt tijdelijk opslaan), maar in de constante procedures en politiek getouwtrek met een saus van nimby.
