  1. mfs were getting put on T-shirts thinking they could take Ukraine.

  2. Love that he can afford a GoPro, but doesn`t have any sights on his rifle.
Tbh if this is the former, now dead, elite paratroopers of Russia, their gear looks worse than the national guard of volunteers in my country.

  3. Well we can all atleast take solace in the fact that basically everybody seen in this video is either dead or wounded and no longer fighting, hopefully the former.

  4. Sometimes I daydream how Hostomel airport assault would look like if it was defended by a modern Unmanned Systems Forces battalion like “Birds of Magyar”.

  5. Well remember they were and still all saving all the best troops and equipment for phase 2 of the 3 day special
    Military Operation…

  6. The actual operation was not that badly planned, they did manage to land the troops and get a strong foothold of the airport (with the objective being the decapitation of the government), but the delays due to manpads and ground troops resistance, combined with the underestimation of ukranian willpower from literally everyone led to a failure of an operation.

  7. Where’s the part where they all die? In any case, it’s disconcerting to see Russian soldiers with military bearing.

  8. Even though the Ukrainian pushed the vdv out on the 24th. The vdv captured the airport on the 25th.

  9. Is there any good documentaries about the first few days/weeks of this war?

  10. @2:55 Sad seeing UR-82060 – the one and only Antonov An-225 Mriya which would be destroyed in this battle.

  11. The first days of the war provided surreal footage.

  12. The weirdest part about this operation is that Russians were trying to actively portray it as a resounding success. Their own twisted version of the Battle of the Alamo or something. There were tons of videos and articles in Russian propaganda outlets praising the might of Russian VDV.

They really are a death cult. Their main military church even [looks like an altar to death](https://i0.wp.com/publicorthodoxy.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/GHVS.jpg?resize=1200%2C800&ssl=1).

What actually happened is that the airfield was mostly defended by National Guard cadettes and unarmed border guards (since it’s an airport, there was a detachment of them on premises) who retreated but didn’t really let the Russians completely take the perimeter or expand their area of control. Then the Ukrainian army arrived, like the 80th Air Assault Brigade, and thoroughly stomped “elite” Russian paratroopers.

I think the biggest takeaway is that you should never go into battle underestimating the enemy or overestimating your capabilities and tactical options. Russians trained for this for years and then just died in a matter of weeks (at least the troops from this video did, by the most part).

P.S. Imagine if Ukrainian artillery that amassed around the airport after Russians took over had some of those DPICM rounds. It would have been an even bigger loss for the Russians.
