In the US, the only period which enjoyed reduced wealth disparity and middle class mobility was that of the postwar period which experienced growth exceeding 10% for a near decade.
While globalism has certainly changed the game and GDP in the range of 10% is very unlikely for any nation, ditching growth as metric of prosperity seems a little gratuitous to me.
Growth matters and it probably matters most to the working classes.
