  1. I remember him well in MASH. He was excellent in an excellent film.

  2. The end of the Seventies remake of **Invasion of the Body Snatchers** **shivers**…

  3. I have got to watch Kelly’s Heroes and send out the positive waves

  4. Jesus, god rest him. Loved him in The Eagle has Landed, despite his horrid Hibernian English.

  5. First Great Train Robbery and Don’t Look Now are personal favourites.

Best character has to be Oddball, “Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves”.

    RIP

  6. Shouldn’t be surprised but I am so shocked. He was fabulous in Kelly’s Heroes, but he was also in so many classic 1960-70s British TV series. Avengers etc. God bless.

  7. He gave the greatest 17 minute monologue in Oliver Stone’s JFK. It is honestly one of the best scenes in the whole film.

I am very much fully aware of the problems with that movie, and with the character that he plays, how factually incorrect and at times absolutely egregious Stone was with the truth.

But holy shit you’d be mad to say that Donald’s scene in that movies isn’t an absolute fucking powerhouse of film making.

  8. Weirdly enough his favourite role for me was in The Simpsons. ‘You’re banned from this historical society! You…and your children….and your children’s children…for three months!’

  9. Cheesy film, but he was fantastic in Backdraft!

    A true legend. RIP.

  10. One of those actors who would steal every scene he was in and that voice…

  11. Legend of an actor. Always remember him in Animal House.
‘I’m not joking. This is my job!’

  12. Bless him. Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Buffy the Vampire Slayer are still up there for me.
