After six years of negotiations, the Czech Republic and Poland signed an agreement on the Turow mine.
Poland agreed to €45 million in compensation and five years of judicial supervision.
Once the Czech government receives the agreed funds from Poland, it will withdraw its lawsuit at the EU Court of Justice.
Poland has committed to completing an underground wall to prevent groundwater from flowing out of the Czech Republic, and will also have to build an earthen protection wall and take other measures to improve air quality.
Monitoring of noise pollution from the mine, air quality, ground movements and groundwater levels will be carried out until mining activities are completed.
Finally! Great to have this finally behind us. However, aren’t the agreed terms – as stated in the article – what Poland offered Czechia since before the lawsuit?
